Violins

Starting in August 2008 we are introducing our Valley of the Sun line of instruments.  These instruments (Violin, Viola, and Cello) are made to our specific needs and to our exact specifications.  The Kelly, DiGeorgio, and E. Pravo models will be added to our rental and student lines, while the DeLaO, Vincenzo, and A. DeMarco models will be available as step up instruments with prices ranging from $750 to $2000 for these 3 lines of (we believe) excellent quality instruments.  We have added another great new line of European instruments as well for around the $1000 price range.  The Martin Beck line of instruments from the German border area have unbelievable looks combined with a solid tonal resonance and good recovery.  These instrument photos will soon be up.  They are available in 4/4 only at this time.  We also carry a large variety of instruments that we are attempting to add to the site.  Since instruments are arriving rapidly, call for current selection and availability.

If possible come in to try out these and the rest of our broad range of instruments available.  We currently have over 100 Violins from 30+ makers and manufacturers along with a broad selection of all sizes of Violas and Cellos so the variety, availabilty, and pricing options are fantastic.

H. Munther

1893 German instrument

Well made German built instrument from 1893.  Refurbished and set up at the famous House of Weaver Violin shop in Bethesda, MD (opened in 1898).  This instrument has a great sound and classical look all in an affordable price.  Why pay more for an instrument with less sound and new wood.  We guarantee this instruments sound will impress, especially in the lower registers.  One of the best sounding instrument in this price range that we've carried.

 Sold

But 2 more late 1800's german instruments are on the way as well as 4 currently in stock made between 1878 and 1908.

*Iesta Model VX85

Select Violins
James Omond early 1900's  This instrument from Scottish maker James Omond has a powerful and unbelievably clear sound.  This instrument (with certificate) was made between 1903 and 1907 and is a great choice for a soloist looking for great projection combined with a clear tone.

 $8,000

(with cert.)

Andre Grednev 1999  This strong sounding instrument with an absolutely beautiful curly maple back was made by Grednev (who is considered the premier maker in the Ukraine today) in 1999.  It's strong tones tend to carry very well in large halls as well as allowing enough subtlety to still be a great choice in smaller venues.

 $6,000

(with cert.)

 T. Lamy (France) 1908-1911  This Grandini version of the French T. Lamy line plays well without overpowering.  A nice choice as a step up instrument with a solid resale value  $2,500 (with papers)
English early 1900's  This unique violin has extremely high f-hole arching making it a unique instrument without limiting it's exceptionally clear sound.  It's unique playabilty allows both a stong player as well as a less aggressive player to both get great superior sound, playability, and tone from this instrument.  Repair label inside from English shop circa 1907.  $4,000
Di Lianardo Cremona, Italy 2002  Very well made Maggini style violin made by one of Cremona's rising stars.  Slightly heavier instrument allows a strong player to bring out a warm and extremely powerful sound.  $7,000
Ascribed to Natale Novelli Italy, 1952  Take advantage of one of the peculiarities of Violin pricing.  This instrument was made by a student of Guiseppe Pedrazzini using Pedrazzini's label as well as having his stamp burned into the inside of the instrument.  3 independent experts believe that this instrument was made by one of Pedrazzini's students probably Novelli rather than by Pedrazzini himself.  Currently Pedrazzini Violins sell for upwards of $55,000, while Novelli's sell for $15-20,000.  Since (we believe) that this is not a Pedrazzini, and since the student did not put his own name/label inside you can get a great sounding, well made instrument with a value of $15-20,000 for a great bargain.  More importantly, get a fantastic sounding 50+ year old Italian instrument at less than the price of most modern Italians'.  $8,500
German late 1890's  Stainer model late 19th century German instrument.  Good quality sound with a absolutely georgeous back (stamped Stainer).  Very high arching below fingerboard and tailpiece as well as some older repairs (hidden by tailpiece) keep the price low for a great old Violin with solid tone and resonation.  $1175.00
SX03 Model  This instrument is not for the faint of heart.  A hugely powerful (but still clear) sound means don't come playing unless you want everyone to hear YOU.  Much more powerful than other SX03 models we've previously had.  Started off with Evah's but the sound was too big and scared evryone away.  Switched to Dominants and still has a sound too big for most.  If a big clear sound is what you want, this Maggini copy will make you more than happy  $2100.00
